The short answer

A casual padel session in the UK typically costs £6–£15 per person per 90 minutes for court hire, plus a one-off £80–£150 for a starter racket. A full season in an amateur league is £80–£150 per person including all court fees. London is the priciest city; Birmingham and Nottingham are noticeably cheaper.

Court hire — the main running cost

Court hire is the biggest cost of regular padel. Pricing in the UK varies a lot by city, time of day, day of the week, and whether the venue is indoor or outdoor.

City / areaOff-peak (90 min)Peak (90 min)Per person at peak
Central London£35–£45£45–£60£11.25–£15.00
Greater London suburbs£28–£38£38–£50£9.50–£12.50
Birmingham£18–£28£28–£40£7.00–£10.00
Nottingham£18–£26£26–£35£6.50–£8.75
Manchester / Leeds / Bristol£22–£32£30–£42£7.50–£10.50

These are indicative ranges as of 2026 — exact prices vary. Most venues use the Playtomic app for booking, which shows real-time availability and current prices.

Cheapest slots are typically weekday off-peak (10:00–17:00) and very late evenings. Most expensive are weekday evenings (18:00–22:00) and weekend mornings, when demand is highest.

What counts as "peak"

Padel demand follows a strong pattern across the UK:

  • Peak — most expensive, hardest to book: Tuesday to Thursday evenings (18:00–21:00), Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings.
  • Mid-peak: Mondays evening, Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
  • Off-peak — cheapest, easiest to book: any weekday daytime slot, late nights (after 22:00), occasionally Sunday evenings.

If you have flexibility around when you play, off-peak prices can be a third of peak — and you'll get nicer courts because availability is much better.

Joining a league

Amateur padel leagues bundle court fees, scheduling and admin into a single seasonal price. Most UK leagues sit in the £80–£150 per person per season range, which typically covers:

  • All court bookings for the season (usually 6–8 fixtures).
  • Balls for every match.
  • Scheduling, results tracking and admin.

Padel Loop seasons start from £95 per person for 7 fixtures, with court fees and balls included. That works out at less than £14 a week for guaranteed weekly play with players matched to your level — usually cheaper than ad-hoc booking, and much cheaper than any padel coaching package.

Equipment

Equipment is a one-off cost for most players.

Padel racket

  • Beginner: £80–£150. A round or teardrop-shaped racket from a reputable brand. Plenty of choice at this price point.
  • Intermediate: £150–£250. Carbon faces, EVA cores, better balance and feel.
  • Advanced / professional: £250–£400. Used by serious players. Diminishing returns above this for most amateurs.
  • Hire from a club: £3–£8 per session. Worth doing for your first 1–3 sessions while you decide whether you like the sport.

See our beginner racket guide for what to look for in your first racket.

Padel balls

  • £6–£10 per tube of 3 balls.
  • A tube lasts 3–5 sessions of casual play before they go dead. Pros replace balls every match.
  • League play almost always provides balls; casual sessions usually don't.

Other kit

  • Court shoes: £60–£120. Padel-specific shoes have a herringbone sole for clay-style courts. Tennis shoes work too.
  • Bag: £30–£80 for a dedicated padel bag, but a sports bag works fine.
  • Wrist strap:£5–£10. Stops you launching your racket through the glass when you're overzealous.

Coaching

Padel coaching is much less institutional than tennis coaching in the UK, but most padel clubs run sessions:

  • Group lesson (4–6 players): £15–£25 per person per hour. The best value for beginners.
  • Group clinic / drill session: £20–£35 per person per 90 minutes. Skills-focused.
  • Private lesson (1-to-1): £40–£70 per hour. Worth it once you have the basics and want to fix specific issues.

Realistic annual budgets

Three example budgets for someone playing weekly across a year.

Casual (weekly social play)

  • Court hire: ~£8 per session × 50 weeks = £400
  • Racket (one-off, amortised over 2 years): £60/year
  • Balls: ~£40/year
  • Court shoes: £40/year amortised
  • Total: ~£540/year

League regular (Padel Loop or similar)

  • Two seasons of league fixtures: ~£190
  • Some social play between seasons: ~£200
  • Racket / shoes / balls amortised: ~£140/year
  • Maybe one group clinic: ~£25
  • Total: ~£555/year

Serious (multiple sessions a week + coaching)

  • 2 sessions a week × 50 weeks at £8: £800
  • League season(s): £190
  • Six private lessons over the year: ~£330
  • Better racket + shoes amortised: ~£200/year
  • Balls + miscellaneous: ~£60
  • Total: ~£1,580/year

Ways to save

  1. Play off-peak. Half the price for the same court.
  2. Join a league. Bundling 7 fixtures into one fee is usually cheaper than booking ad-hoc — and you stop paying for dropouts.
  3. Hire a racket while you're deciding.Don't buy a £200 racket on session two.
  4. Use four players, always.Padel is doubles only — don't pay for a court for three.
  5. Find a regular group. The most expensive padel is the kind you don't actually play because the group fell apart.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a padel court cost to hire in the UK?

A 90-minute padel court hire in the UK typically costs £20 to £60 in 2026. Prices are highest in central London (often £40–£60), mid-range in Manchester, Leeds and Bristol (£25–£40), and lowest in cities like Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield (£20–£35). Peak evenings and weekends are more expensive than off-peak.

How much does padel cost per person?

Padel is doubles only, so court hire is split four ways. At a typical UK court price of £30 per 90 minutes, that's £7.50 per person per session. In central London at peak time it might be £12–£15 per person; in Birmingham off-peak it can be under £6 per person.

How much does a padel league cost?

Amateur padel leagues in the UK typically range from £80 to £150 per person per season, which usually includes court fees and balls for every fixture. Padel Loop seasons start from £95 per person for 7 fixtures, with court fees and balls included.

How much do padel rackets cost?

A solid beginner padel racket costs £80 to £150. Intermediate rackets are typically £150 to £250. Premium professional-grade rackets run £250 to £400. Most clubs hire rackets out for £3 to £8 per session if you don't want to commit upfront.

Are padel lessons worth the money?

For complete beginners, one or two group lessons are excellent value — typically £15–£25 per person for a 60-minute group session — and will fast-track your enjoyment of the game. Private one-to-one coaching is more expensive (£40–£70 per hour) and usually only worth it once you have the basics down.
